On the 9th of September in Moscow was held an international forum on measures to counter movement of illegal fur on the territory of Eurasian Economic Union which was organized by the Russian Fur Union together with the retail companies association with the support from the Government of the Russian Federation and the IFF.

 Forum was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of industry and trade of the Russian Federation, Federal Customs Service, Eurasian Economic Commission, developers of the fur labeling system, representatives of the main countries exporting fur products in Russia (China, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Hong Kong), managers and specialists of manufacturing and trading companies in Russia and other countries (Great Britain, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine), the heads of the national fur associations of the Eurasia region.

At the forum were discussed the measures taken by the EAEU countries to counter illegal movement of fur products, which has gained significant scale.

The theme of the forum was particularly relevant in the run-up to the new fur season and proposed measures should contribute to a significant reduction in gray business in the fur industry and enhance fair competition among manufacturers and distributors of fur products.

Experts estimate that in 2014 unaccounted import of fur products on the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union reached 80%. This situation directly affects the legal business that is uncompetitive and leads to greater losses of the state budget. To take control of this problem was the introduction of the mechanism of labeling, which was supported at the level of heads of states of the Eurasian Economic Union (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan).

• Import of goods into the territory of the EAEC carried out in the presence of control marks;

• Labeling of goods after the release is provided at specialized storage facilities (if provided by national law).
